Concerning the first topic, it will be shown how to implement synchronous and absolute encoders based on linear chains of inclusions and combining time and phase domains. The potential of these encoders for motion control and chipless-RFID applications will be highlighted. Concerning the second topic, it will be demonstrated that unprecedented sensitivities with reflective-mode phase-variation sensors can be achieved. In these sensors, a change in the dielectric properties of the so-called material under test (MUT) modifies the phase of the reflection coefficient, the output variable. Nevertheless, these sensors can be applied in a wide variety of scenarios, such as monitoring of environmental parameters (temperature, humidity), defect detection, material composition determination, detection of impurities in liquids, etc. The beneficial effects of losses in such sensors will also be discussed in the talk.

Biography

Ferran Martín received the B.S.
